Biography

Georges (Sjoerd) Romme has a background in economics and business administration, with a MSc in economics (cum laude) from Tilburg University and a doctoral degree in business administration from Maastricht University. Previously, he was on the staff of Tilburg University and Maastricht University. His current position is professor of Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Since 2007, he is also serving as dean of the Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences department at this university.

In the period 2005-2007, professor Romme was an International Visiting Fellow of the Advanced Institute of Management Research (AIM) in the UK. In addition, he received several educational and best teaching awards from the European Foundation of Management Development (EFMD) and Maastricht University. Georges Romme currently is senior editor for Organization Studies and previously was on the editorial board of Organization Science (2004-2008) and other journals. His previous work was mainly on new organizational forms, organizational learning, and (design) research methods. More recently, technology entrepreneurship and the design of incubation systems have become key research topics.  Publications have appeared in Organization Science, Organization Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Management Learning, Omega, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Technovation, Industrial & Corporate Change, Simulation & Gaming and many other journals. With Mariann Jelinek and Richard Boland, Georges recently edited a special issue of Organization Studies on "Organization Studies as a Science for Design" (published in 2008).

Most of his work over a period of more than ten years aimed at developing a design mindset among (management and entrepreneurship) scholars as well as students.  As such, Romme has been one of the "original pioneers who brought the design sciences to organization studies" (Paul Bate in: Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, vol. 43, 2007, p. 10). This fascination with science for design is evident from Romme's work on designing circular organizations, educational systems that produce deep learning, and incubation environments for technology startups.
